2012 Speaker and Workshop teacher was Shirley Bloomfield
Our speaker for the day was Shirley Bloomfield from Suffolk. Shirley specialises in Baltimore Applique with "an English twist". The workshop on the Friday was a great success and many of the attendees said that they learned so much!
"I found inspiration for my designs in the plants, flowers and wildlife that surrounded my home – a five hundred year old cottage with a large garden (and three cats!) in the heart of the English countryside. However in December 2010 I moved to a more modern house not far away and am creating a new but smaller garden. New home means new inspiration and I am now working on a new range of ideas. I particularly like adding dimensional flowers and features to my designs and it is this feature which appeals to many of my students. My designs frequently feature in quilting magazines such as British Patchwork & Quilting, Fabrications and Popular Patchwork."

Quilts on display for A Gift of Quilts
In the exhibition gallery of the Fairground we had a small show of quilts sent in for A Gift of Quilts, the Olympic project for 2012. Wonderfully colourful and attracting a lot of interest from the visiting quilters and members of the public visiting the cafe and craft centre.
